Institution: San Luis Obispo Museum of Art
Professional Development & In-house Manual Project
The San Luis Obispo Museum of Art invited VisitorStudies.com to work with them as a part of their Deepen the Participation of Museum Visitors, Donors and Stakeholders project. Funded by The James Irvine Foundation’s Arts Regional Initiative Grant, the primary focus of the project was to train staff and develop methods for “continuous surveying, evaluating and understanding of the Museum’s visitor needs and expectations.” I lead staff and volunteers in two hands-on workshops in which they practiced creating surveys, conducting interviews, observing visitors, and building and testing exhibit prototypes with the public. The project culminated with the creation of a Visitor Studies Manual for SLOMA which is available on line for public use as well.
