Chabot Space & Science Center invited me to evaluate their after-school program, Champions of Science, multiple years prior to covid. In addition to observing the programs in action, we involved students in group interviews, written surveys, mind mapping activities, etc. The students especially enjoyed using video diaries to record their thoughts about program activities, including how they saw those activities benefiting themselves and the community. Over the course of numerous visits to observe and chat with the children in the program, they got to know me, so they were comfortable during evaluation activities. Findings consistently demonstrated the power of CoS to build student awareness of, ability with, and interest in STEM.
